Since Monday, the services of the city of Caen have been idling.

No ransom was demanded, but the cyberattack has some consequences on the daily life of the inhabitants.

The entire computer system was shut down as a security measure.

A complaint must be filed this Wednesday. 

After the Corbeil-Essonnes hospital center, it is the turn of the municipalities to be the target of hackers.

Alongside the city of Les Mureaux in the Yvelines, the city of Caen is also affected by an attack.

A responsive IT service

Websites related to the city were also inaccessible on Tuesday. 

"We can thank the management of IT services since very quickly, they were able to intervene to stop the attack and prevent the "hacker" software from having the time to encrypt all of our data", explains the mayor of Caen, Joël Brunau. 

System blocked

“He was able to reach only two out of 200 servers in the city. To prevent hackers from being able to demand a ransom to recover the data, the services blocked the system so that the software could not progress further. within our computer system", he continues at the microphone of Europe 1. 

In the meantime, birth and death certificates are registered manually.

Reception to the public remains open and the City's IT specialists will continue their investigations until the end of the week.
