Schulz: Referendums will not change Germany's position on the Ukrainian regions

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Berlin's position on the Ukrainian lands on which Russia held referendums over the past few days would not change.

"We will not accept the results of these sham referendums, and our support for Ukraine will continue undiminished," Schulz told the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung newspaper on Wednesday.

"Germany supports Ukraine to the best of its ability and at the same time does everything in its power to prevent a direct conflict between NATO and Russia," he added.

Moscow held referendums in four Ukrainian regions controlled by Russian forces, Kherson, Donetsk, Luhansk and Zaporizhia, to justify its annexation to the Russian Federation.
