Russia opens investigation into "international terrorist act" after Nord Stream leak
Russian security services have opened an investigation into an "international terrorist act" after the alleged sabotage of Nord Stream gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea, the Russian prosecutor's office announced Wednesday.
"Based on the items sent by the Russian Prosecutor's Office ... the investigative body of the Federal Security Service has opened a criminal case," the prosecution said in a statement posted on its Telegram account.
A preliminary investigation has begun.
"Near the (Danish) island of Bornholm, deliberate acts of damage were committed to the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines located in the depths of the Baltic Sea," the statement added.
"The Russian Federation has suffered serious economic damage due to these actions," he added.
