Some locals will have to go further to buy their wand.

In Armentières (North), two of the eight bakeries in the city center including the Saint-Roch district will close this week.

The main reasons are inflation, the rise in the price of raw materials, but also gas and electricity bills which are constantly increasing.

The managers can no longer cope.

The bread slicer will soon no longer work in this artisan bakery located in the Saint-Roch district, in Armentières.

Delphine and Pascal have been running this business for more than ten years.

"It's our baby that we carried for 11 years", they confide with emotion to Europe 1. "It's not easy to close, there are a lot of emotions. It's hard but it is a good choice at the moment."

"Invoice increase of almost 40%"

Especially with the context and the increase in the price of energy, they explain: "I took out the electricity bills for you. These are not small bills. In the month of July, we had to pay €943, for the month of May 1725 euros. We estimate that they have increased by almost 40%.

“If we raise prices, customers will suffer”

"Butter, mayonnaise... All these products are constantly increasing. We cannot increase our products forever, otherwise customers will suffer. This business will be placed in compulsory liquidation", laments Dimitri.

Regular customers can turn to the other bakeries around the city center.

Except that the inhabitants of the Saint-Roch district will have to walk a little more to buy their bread: the bakery being the last business in the district.
