Six adults were injured, and three are reportedly in serious condition, in a shooting at an institution in Oakland, California.

The facility was evacuated while the police intervened on the spot.

The situation is now under control and the school has been reopened but there are no details on the possible perpetrator nor is it known if anyone was stopped.

Mayor Libby Schaaf tweeted that all the injured were adults and that the shooting took place at the Sojourner Truth Independent Study, an alternative secondary school.

A city council member said investigators believe the shooting could be linked to growing "violence between groups and gangs."
