A 29-year-old mother was accused of having fatally suffocated her baby on August 20, 2018 in a maternity hospital in Chesnay (Yvelines).

After three years in pre-trial detention and three days of trial, the Assize Court of Versailles finally cleared her;

on Tuesday.

Forced confessions?

Throughout the investigation, a scientific doubt remained around the death of the baby.

The autopsy and the various expertise carried out could not determine with certainty the origin of this death.

This occurred when the 15-day-old girl was with her mother in the maternity ward.

It could be a co-sleeping accident, sudden infant death syndrome, or an intentional act by the mother.

The affair could have ended there, but the mother had however several times admitted to having deliberately killed her daughter, in a letter left to the baby's grandmother and in two recorded conversations with the child's father.

As many confessions as the mother has always claimed to have made under the duress of her violent ex-companion who would have blackmailed her, because he would not have wanted children.
