The tragedy was narrowly avoided this Wednesday morning in Guenrouët, north of Loire-Atlantique.

It was a little after 7 a.m. when a car left the road and ended up in the Nantes-Brest canal, near the Saint-Clair port.

The motorist was submerged.

But a witness to the scene did not hesitate to jump into the water and dove to recover the victim, reports the departmental fire and rescue service.

The victim was brought to shore in cardiac arrest.

The firefighters, who arrived on the scene, then took over and managed to resuscitate her.

She was transported conscious to the hospital.

The firefighters congratulated the witness for his courage.

According to the first elements of the investigation, the vehicle left the road due to a suicide attempt.
