War in Ukraine: Behind exile and protest against mobilization, can the Kremlin tremble?

6:52 a.m .: Results expected at the earliest this evening

Regarding these referendums, the Russian authorities have assured that “provisional results” should be announced no earlier than Tuesday evening or in the days that follow.

The Russian Parliament will then have to vote on a text formalizing the integration of the four regions into Russia.

06:42: Last day of annexation votes organized by Russia

Russia completes on Tuesday the organization of annexation referendums in four territories totally or partly under its control in Ukraine.

These polls arouse the anger of both kyiv and Westerners, who have promised a strong response in the event of incorporation.

Held since Friday in the separatist regions of Donetsk and Lugansk (east) and those under Russian occupation of Kherson and Zaporozhye, these polls have been denounced as "simulacra" by Ukraine and its allies.

The G7 countries have vowed to "never recognize" their results, while Washington has promised a "swift and severe" response through additional economic sanctions to these annexations, which follow the pattern of that of Crimea in March 2014 .

China, Moscow's closest partner, without going so far as to denounce the elections, also called for respecting "the territorial integrity of all countries".

06:38: Gas leak on the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline

The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which links Russia to Germany but has not been commissioned, has suffered a gas leak in the Baltic Sea, the pipeline operator and Danish authorities announced on Monday.

The Nord Stream 2 pipeline, built in parallel to the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline, was intended to double the capacity for importing Russian gas into Germany.

The site was almost finished, but the operating permit was blocked by the German government in February, just before the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.

The pipeline had nevertheless been "technically prepared" and "filled with gas", explained Ulrich Lissek, spokesperson for Nord Stream 2.

At the end of the evening, the operator of the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline also reported a drop in pressure in this pipeline.

“The reasons are being clarified,” Nord Stream said.

"We do not know the reasons for the drop in pressure," said a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Economy in Berlin.

But “there is no impact on the security of supply.

The gas no longer arrives via Nord Stream 1 since the cessation of Russian deliveries at the beginning of September, ”she recalled.
