The hearing of the trial for Patrick Zaki

has been postponed again

, who will have to wait until September 27 to defend himself from the accusation of spreading false news in Egypt and abroad. 

“Today they just took my identity card, they let me out, they told me to wait: I was there for two hours with no idea what was going on.

Then they told me that (the hearing) was

postponed to September 27th,

”Zaki specified speaking to reporters in front of the Mansura Palace of Justice, in northern Egypt. 

“We are in a cycle of postponements.

It is not acceptable, I want to go back to my studies and

I start to feel not free

.

And that is totally unacceptable to me, ”she added. 

The Egyptian student, enrolled in a master's degree from the University of Bologna, was

arrested in February 2020

Only last June, however, after more than a year of pre-trial detention, the judiciary revealed the charge regarding an article that Zaki, a student but also

a human rights activist

published on an Egyptian portal in 2018 to denounce the persecutions suffered by the Coptic-Christian minority in the country.   

Last December then the release, but not the dismissal of the charges, and due to the ongoing proceedings, Zaki

cannot leave the country

to return to Italy and continue his studies.   

Although on the loose, Zaki still faces

five years in prison

on charges of spreading false news to the detriment of his country.
