• Politics Podemos kicks the PCE leader close to Yolanda Díaz out of the Government and replaces him with Lilith Verstrynge

  • Cessation Irene Montero dismisses her chief of staff in the middle of the clash between Podemos and IU in Andalusia

The

Communist Party of Spain (PCE),

the soul of the United Left, has reduced the participation of Podemos in its traditional start-of-year parties to the minimum expression after Ione Belarra kicked the PCE general secretary,

Enrique Santiago

, out of the government , in a context of strong tensions between the

purple

party and IU for the candidacy in Andalusia and the different approaches regarding the Yolanda Díaz project.

It happened last July, when Santiago, close to the second vice president, was dismissed as

Secretary of State for the 2030 Agenda

, a position attached to the Ministry of Social Affairs, to appoint in his place the Secretary of Organization of Podemos,

Lilith Verstrynge

.

With him, the PCE formally disappeared from the Government and only

Alberto Garzón

remained as IU leader.

That dismissal occurred just a month and a half after

Irene Montero

fired another PCE leader from the Ministry of Equality.

The

number two

of Podemos dismissed

Amanda Meyer

as her chief of staff.

This concatenation of dismissals from IU positions cannot be understood without the context of strong tensions generated between Podemos and IU in Andalusia on account of the candidacy that attended the regional elections in June and was headed by

Inma Nieto

after Yolanda Díaz took party for her against purple Juan Antonio Delgado.

The PCE is the heart of IU in that community, so it had a determining role in that fight with Podemos for the lists and the configuration of the coalition.

The Andalusian leader of IU,

Toni Valero

, is Meyer's partner, one of the victims of these clashes.

A few months after that, the role of Podemos in the PCE parties will be testimonial.

of minimums.

Despite the opening of a decisive electoral cycle and in contrast to the deployment of the first level that it had last year, when the centenary of the PCE was commemorated.

Then, both the hard core of the

purple

party and other leaders such as

Rafa Mayoral

participated in the event .

There, the Minister of Social Rights and General Secretary of Podemos,

Ione Belarra

, participated in various political talks ;

the Minister of Equality and

number two

of Podemos, Irene Montero;

or the founder and former leader of the party,

Pablo Iglesias

, who was already in 2019.

This year's debate program published on the PCE website includes only two interventions by members of Podemos.

One is that of

Serigne Mbayé

, a deputy in the Madrid Assembly who was at the head of the labor union.

The other is that of a position not yet specified that he will participate in a round table with members of IU, the

commons

,

More Country

and

Compromís

and that it will be moderated by Amanda Meyer.

Over the next few months, Podemos and IU have yet to formalize in which autonomous communities and municipalities they will present themselves together in the elections next May.

Despite the growing internal tensions and the different approach to Yolanda Díaz's project, the leaderships of both parties have conspired to try to concur together wherever possible.

For which they will mostly leave aside the United We Can brand to recover the acronym in the name.

The alliances will materialize over the next few months and it will be the regional and local assemblies of the IU that will have the last word.

Well, they have the power to impose their criteria despite the wishes of the federal leadership.
