The ship, with 50 people on board, traveled at 20:00 straight towards the area which is now bubbling heavily from the gas from the broken line.

They were then northeast of Bornholm.

- It was dark at the time we sailed past but we could see it on the radar.

It gave quite clear echoes, says Fridtjof Jungeling.

The crew could clearly see the radar echo from the incident.

At the same time, they were informed by the coast guard that something was not right.

- So we changed course and went north.

When they were closest, they were three nautical miles from the site, corresponding to approximately 5.5 kilometers.

If visibility had been clear, Fridtjof Jungeling believes they would have been able to see the bubbles.

- I want to believe that because the radar echoes were so clear, he says.
