A state visit by President Emmanuel Macron, accompanied by his wife, will take place on December 1 in Washington, the White House spokesman announced.

The French head of state will be received by Joe Biden.

A strong signal sent by the United States since this is the first state visit organized since the election of Joe Biden.

It's a new trip that has just been added to Emmanuel Macron's agenda.

The White House announced Monday evening that the French president and the First Lady will be received on December 1 in Washington by Joe Biden.

And for the occasion, as with Donald Trump in April 2018, the White House is going to put on a big show: it will be a state visit.

The highest form of diplomatic encounter

A state encounter is the highest form of diplomatic encounter.

A reception with great fanfare which will be marked in particular by a state dinner, as announced by the spokesperson for the White House, Karine Jean-Pierre.

"This visit will testify to the depth and vigor of the relationship between the United States and France, our oldest ally. Our relationship is based on shared democratic values, economic ties, and cooperation on defense and security."

First state visit since Joe Biden's election

A strong signal sent by Washington since this will be the first state visit organized at the White House since the election of Joe Biden.

This while a year ago, at the same time, the two leaders were going through an unprecedented diplomatic quarrel following the involvement of the United States in Australia's cancellation of the purchase of submarines French, the famous contract of the century.

But since then, the war in Ukraine has reshuffled the cards and Washington has doubled its exports of liquefied natural gas to the European Union.

As in Algiers last month, the energy crisis will therefore be at the heart of the presidential trip.
