The unicorn wants to go green.

The start-up Sorare, which relies on NFTs to create an online game for exchanging badges of American football, baseball and basketball players, has just announced that it intends to achieve carbon neutrality by the end of 2022.

A challenge for any company whose activity is based on the blockchain, regularly singled out for its energy consumption.

The French champion, valued at more than $4 billion, has partnered with the leading carbon accounting platform Plan A to reduce its carbon footprint.

The green blockchain is one of the matches to be won for companies in the sector if they want to impose themselves in a context of energy crisis.

While proof-of-work blockchains, such as Bitcoin, which make processors work to solve energy-intensive equations, are singled out for their energy balance, other protocols attempt to offer a comparable level of security while being more economical.

99% off in 2021

By migrating the transactions at the base of the game from the core of Ethereum to a secondary layer, much less energy-intensive, Sorare had in fact reduced its carbon footprint by 99% in 2021. This new partnership concerns the automation of declarations of company issue.

Based in Paris and New York, the company will also monitor the travel of its employees as well as the supply of premises and will rely on the artificial intelligence of the Plan platform to improve its needs.

"Today, our communities are constantly evolving and growing and we are committed to continuing our development in a responsible and sustainable manner," explained Nicolas Julia, CEO of Sorare in the announcement of the partnership.

We aim to become a carbon neutral company and set new standards in the Web3 ecosystem.
