Over an area of 700 dunums inside the towns of Beit Hanina and Hizma, to the northeast of Jerusalem, the Israeli occupation municipality plans to establish a new settlement scheme, which would deepen the siege of the Palestinians and prevent their geographical expansion.

The so-called “District Planning and Building Committee” in Jerusalem approved the settlement plan, to establish a national park inside the “Psgat Ze’ev” settlement on the land of towns north of the holy city.

According to what was revealed by the settlement associations that will participate with the occupation municipality and the “Nature Authority” in the new settlement project, this scheme, called the “National Deer Park”, was approved less than a week after its submission, as the settlement institutions obtained a decision signed by the head of the committee. The Jerusalem District Planning and Building District, Shira Ptolemy Babai, approved the plan for the establishment of an urban landscape park, covering an area of approximately 700 dunams.

Elimination of gatherings

The “deer” settlement park will be established by the occupation in the area of the Israeli park “Nahal Zimri,” where the settlement associations claim that the targeted area are “nature reserves” that include a herd of deer, and unique types of plants and animals, according to the researcher in Jerusalem affairs, Fakhri Abu Diab.

Abu Diab told Al-Emarat Al-Youm in an exclusive interview: “The occupation municipality is exploiting the natural areas to seize more Palestinian lands for the benefit of its future settlement projects. Empty for building (national parks) and other projects.

It shows that the occupation municipality aims, by establishing this park, to prevent the expansion of Arab communities in the Jerusalemite towns of Hizma, Beit Hanina and Shuafat, and to deprive Palestinians of benefiting from their lands, and to maintain empty spaces, for the settlers to benefit from in their expansion and control over Palestinian land.

The researcher in Jerusalem affairs points out that the decision to approve the confiscation of land for the benefit of the settlement garden project eliminates the only available space for urban expansion of Jerusalemites, which has become confined between two sectors of settlement construction that isolates “Shuafat” from “Beit Hanina,” which separates from “Beit Hanina.” assertive.”

confiscation installation

On the other hand, the Director of Popular Action in the Settlement and Wall Resistance Commission, Abdullah Abu Rahma, asserts that the decision to approve the establishment of the “deer park” is a confirmation of the Israeli confiscation decisions of approximately 1,170 dunums of the lands of Shuafat, Beit Hanina, and Anata, in Jerusalem, adding that "The occupation will allocate 700 acres of this area, located in the towns of Beit Hanina and Hizma, for the benefit of the settlement garden."

Abu Rahma continues: “The occupation, after plundering these areas, will establish new settlement units, just as it happened in (Jabal Abu Ghneim) in the Holy City, when Israel seized the entire land of the mountain, under the pretext that it is a nature reserve, but soon began building settlement units there.”

He points out that the new settlement project will force many Jerusalemite families to migrate due to the settlers' intrusion into their towns, and the advance of Pisgat Ze'ev towards their lands.

Pisgat Zeev Expansion

Pisgat Ze'ev settlement, which will host the "deer park" after the confiscation of large areas of Jerusalem towns' lands, is one of the largest settlement gatherings north of Jerusalem, with a population of about 55,000 settlers.

The researcher in Jerusalem affairs says: “Psgat Ze’ev is one of the five circular settlements that surround Jerusalem from the north, and separate Palestinian neighborhoods from each other, while it is still continuing its settlement expansion within the lands of five Jerusalem villages, namely, Shuafat, Beit Hanina, Hizma, Anata, and Shuafat refugee camp.

He added, “After the construction of the apartheid wall, Pisgat Ze’ev became inside the separation wall in the northern sector of Jerusalem, while the occupation isolated Shuafat camp, the closest neighborhood to the Old City in the Holy City, behind the wall, to establish a military crossing separating the camp and large parts of the lands of Shuafat towns. And Anata from the center of Jerusalem.”

Abu Diab points out that, during the past years, Israel has made major expansions inside the settlement, which will host the “Deer Garden” scheme, in order to separate the city of Jerusalem from several surrounding villages, indicating that the occupation is currently planning to expand it by building 930 new settlement units, within A comprehensive plan to achieve this goal.

The new settlement project will force many Jerusalemite families to migrate due to the settlers’ intrusion into their towns, and the encroachment of “Psgat Ze’ev” settlement towards their lands.

The occupation municipality aims by establishing the park to prevent the expansion of Arab communities in the Jerusalemite towns of Hizma, Beit Hanina and Shuafat, and to deprive Palestinians of benefiting from their lands, and to maintain empty spaces, for the settlers to benefit from in their expansion and control over Palestinian land.
