The King of Saudi Arabia, Salman bin Abdulaziz, issued orders to restructure the Council of Ministers, so that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman would assume the presidency of the Council of Ministers.

A royal order published by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) stipulated that "His Royal Highness Prince Muhammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Crown Prince, shall be the Prime Minister," after he was Deputy Chairman of the Council, King Salman.

The royal orders also stipulated the appointment of Prince Khalid bin Salman as Minister of Defense and keeping Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman as Minister of Energy, and Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz as Minister of Interior.
