A decree published on September 16 set the new rates for vehicle breakdown and towing operations on motorways and expressways.

And this year, the distinction between vehicles weighing less than 1.8 tonnes and those between 1.8 tonnes and 3.5 tonnes is over.

There will now be only two rates: the basic flat rate and the increased flat rate, reports UFC Que Choisir.

Only professionals approved by the public authorities may work on motorways and expressways.

It is for this reason that their rates are set by decree each year.

Thus, for 2022-2023, the basic flat rate, which concerns interventions carried out from Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., has increased from 132.70 euros to 138.01 euros, i.e. a 4% increase.

And the increased flat rate, for interventions taking place from Monday to Friday between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m., as well as Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, has dropped and is now 170.65 euros (compared to 199.05 previously) .

Display of rates and detailed invoice

These rates must be displayed in the cab of the breakdown vehicle.

The repairman must also give motorists, after his intervention, an invoice detailing the services and their prices.

In addition, the repairman must have been called from an emergency terminal and arrived on the scene within 30 minutes.

If it is a minor breakdown, the repairman must carry out the repairs on site.

If this is not possible, he must take care of towing the vehicle either to his own garage, or at the request of motorists to a garage of their choice, provided that it is located less than 5 km from the exit. motorway or expressway.

Any additional intervention will be invoiced freely by the repairman.

Hence the importance for motorists to obtain information before the intervention.
