The grant was introduced to help Sweden's poorest municipalities and regions get their noses above water.

For Filipstad's part, the costs of support have skyrocketed, and Filipstad was one of the 23 municipalities and five regions that applied for the new state subsidy.

"The state is not prepared to take its financial responsibility"

Filipstad had applied for SEK 118 million to lower the cost budget - both in the long and short term.

- This is another signal that the state is not prepared to take its financial responsibility that they put certain municipalities in by taking a large national responsibility for refugee reception and then passing the responsibility for this on to the municipalities, says Hannes Fellsman who is the municipal director in Filipstad .

- We are prepared to work on this and take responsibility - if we get money.

The decision also applies to the municipality of Grum, which had applied for a grant of 24.3 million kroner, but now 1.3 million is granted.
