"I cannot believe that José Manuel Pérez Tornero has been dropped without having a replacement to preside over RTVE".

This is how emphatically a member of the Board of Directors of the public channel expresses itself, suddenly beheaded, just hours before a meeting of the leadership that has acquired unexpected relevance.

However, there is the option, the possibility that the blow on the table has occurred without a solution to the problem highlighted, that the chair remains empty before the gaze of the rest of the members of the room.

Moncloa holds meetings with directors today (those appointed at the proposal of the PSOE), from which open fringes are deduced, and the chain faces the start of the television season disoriented.

This Tuesday a meeting of the corporation's leadership was planned, an appointment dynamited by the forced resignation of the president of RTVE, who is also from that same Board of Directors.

"Today

we should have a new president

, on an interim basis," exposes another member of that body of maximum representation, consulted by this newspaper.

The agenda, of course, has changed.

As this newspaper has learned, it has two points, albeit important enough: "Presentation of the resignation of President José Manuel Pérez Tornero" and "

Debate and election, if applicable, of the chairmanship of the Board of Directors

in accordance with the provisions of article 30 of the Company Bylaws".

Thus, from this extraordinary council (no longer ordinary) a new president will emerge, although predictably with limited functions.

The vote of the directors could leave a new person in charge of the chain, a president of the Board of Directors, but not of the RTVE corporation.

This supposes a blockage in practice for decision-making, as such a figure lacks full executive powers.

The formula has already been used before, without convincing, specifically from 2014, when José Manuel Peñalosa covered the resignation of the then president of RTVE Leopoldo González-Echenique, who was deprived of support and saw the exit door marked, the the same one that Pérez Tornero now crosses.

Then,

the presidency had a rotating nature

, among the directors who did not resign.

The current RTVE has 10: four appointed at the proposal of the PSOE (three without Pérez Tornero), three at the proposal of the PP, two of United We Can and one of the PNV.

With five yeses, there would be a majority to find the provisional relief.

The pools make one think of one of the names that the socialist likes, following in the footsteps of Pérez Tornero:

Elena Sánchez

, former candidate for the Presidency;

Concepción Cascajosa

, professor of critical communication with the outgoing president;

or

Ramón Colom

, who has taken the most care of these balances so as not to stray too far from the management that is coming to an end today.
