EU imposes sanctions on organizers of annexation referendums in Ukraine

A spokesman for the European Union's foreign policy chief confirmed today, Tuesday, that the annexation referendums organized by Russia in Ukraine are illegal, and that all persons who participated in organizing them will be subject to sanctions.

"There will be consequences for all the people who participated in these illegal referendums and for those who supported them," Peter Stano said during a press conference in Brussels.

The European Union is currently preparing a package of economic sanctions against Russia and its individuals, Luc-Pierre Dauphin, an aide to the European Union's foreign policy chief, said Tuesday during a session of the European Parliament.

"We will add to the list the people who obviously participated in these polls," Dauphin said.

Stano pointed out that the European citizens that Moscow presents as international observers in these annexation referendums can also be imposed on them.
