The SGP Police 92 union recently wanted to alert the population to the resurgence of a scam which is claiming more and more victims in Ile-de-France, and especially in Hauts-de-Seine.

The method in question is nicknamed “spot theft”;

It is indeed by dirtying the clothes of their victims that criminals operate.

After having spilled a liquid on their target, the thieves propose to the latter to clean the stain which has formed.

They then take advantage of the situation to steal personal effects.

The elderly are particularly targeted.

Great vigilance is recommended.

An 82-year-old woman, for example, had the necklace she was wearing stolen by two individuals claiming to remove a spot on her back.

Police officers who witnessed the scene were able to arrest the suspects.

The police union explained that this theft technique had notably made a comeback in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Courbevoie and La Garenne-Colombes (Hauts-de-Seine).
