Uganda Ebola outbreak spreads to three central districts: 16 confirmed, 18 suspected

On September 25, local time, Uganda health officials said that the recent Ebola outbreak in the country has led to 16 confirmed infections and 18 suspected infections.

According to a Reuters report on September 25, Uganda’s Ministry of Health said on Twitter that four people diagnosed with the virus have died, and 17 patients who may have been infected with the virus have also died.

The outbreak has spread to three districts in central Uganda.

Ugandan health authorities said the outbreak appeared to have started around early September, according to CCTV News.

The WHO said on September 20 that a sample taken from a 24-year-old man in central Uganda’s Mubende district was identified as a relatively rare Ebola-Sudan strain, who died on September 19. This is the first time in more than a decade that the Ebola-Sudan strain has been detected in Uganda.

There are currently no approved drugs to prevent or treat Ebola.
