Once the report became public, it turned out that two classrooms at Älghult School had five to six times higher radon values than recommended.

According to Folkhälsomyndigehten, the risk of lung cancer increases if you are exposed to radon for a long time.

The limit value is 200 bequerels per cubic meter, and 1170 bequerels were measured in the classrooms.

Security officer Mikaela Rosander alerted the school management, who made the decision to close the classrooms.

- We can't keep our students in the halls when we see that it's so bad, she says.

Had to demand the results

The measurements were made by Uppvidingehus in January to February, and the results came already in March.

But the school only became aware of the high radon values in September.

- I had to work to get the results, it wasn't something they (Uppvidingehus) gave out voluntarily.

But it's because I requested the results, says Mikaela Rosander.

Why did it take so long before you, as a security representative, checked the measurement results?

- We think that if different measurements are made, they should come back with the results.

We shouldn't have to ask for that.

If it were something urgent then they would tell us, because they manage the property, says Mikaela Rosander.

"A miss"

Tom Eriksson, CEO of Uppvidingehus, admits to SVT Småland that the school should have been informed earlier about the measurements.

- It's a mistake, we missed the communication.

But I think the report has arrived within a reasonable time from when it was requested.

We work with several things and it takes time to find the right measurement results.
