Improve privacy and security

The iOS operating system for iPhone devices has always focused on security and privacy, and the new iOS 16 update adds a number of important new features and capabilities in this area, the most prominent of which are:

1- Protect photos with Face ID

The iPhone has long given you the option to hide private photos in a separate folder, so that they don't appear in the Photos list unless you specifically go to the hidden folder on the Albums page.

In iOS 16, the iPhone protects your private photos and deleted folders using Face ID. This way, it is impossible for anyone to see your private photos without your permission.

2- Protect notes with Face ID

The user can keep some notes secret using a passcode, but in iOS 16, for added protection, you can use the facial or fingerprint recognition feature.

3- Use Security Check to review access to your data

Over time, you may have given many friends and family members access to the data on your iPhone, for example you may share your location permanently or share photo folders in the Photos app.

The new Security Checkup feature can quickly perform a privacy audit.

4- Revoke everyone's access to your phone's data

The iPhone's Security Check dashboard also has an emergency reset button, this feature will revoke any prior permissions to access your data.

You can enable this option if you suspect that your personal safety is at risk from a stalker or assailant, or if you believe your phone has been hacked.

5- Grant permission for apps to copy from clipboard

If an app tries to read the contents of the clipboard - which contains everything you've copied recently - you'll see a pop-up asking you to give that application permission to read the clipboard.

If you deny the permission, the app will not be able to access the clipboard.

You can't give the app permanent permission, it will ask for the permission every time it tries to read the clipboard.

6- Install security updates automatically

Security updates are usually important, and only rolled out with newer and larger versions that used to take time to download and install.

Starting with iOS 16, Apple can send out small security patches without having to wait for time-consuming major updates. These updates will install automatically, making your phone more secure.

7- Protection from hackers and government interference

Lockdown Mode may not be important to many, but journalists, political activists, and even some government officials may be grateful for a new iOS 16 feature that offers protection from state-sponsored spyware and hackers.

Apple is giving users the option to temporarily turn off some of the device features most targeted by global spyware with the press of a button (and restart the device), to make spying, phone hacking, and data mining more difficult.

8- PassKeys

Users will no longer have to enter their username and password to log in to their apps or websites, and this reduces exposure to scams and scams.

In iOS 16, a passkey for a specific website or app is set up and stored on the phone or PC you're using, with only your fingerprint or face unlocked.

Thus, you can now log in using your fingerprint instead of a password, and the passkeys are synchronized and backed up, for retrieval in case you buy a new device, they are stored in the iCloud keychain.
