The president of RTVE, José Manuel Pérez Tornero, announced on Monday his intention to present his resignation from the position and continue to form part of the corporation's board of directors.

It did so through a letter in which it justified its decision on the fact that "the minimum conditions for transversal consensus do not exist, nor for the formation of a plural, stable and coherent majority; and, on many occasions, neither only the climate conducive to dialogue or that we need to complete the project", which, in his opinion, "makes the governability of the company very difficult, and prevents carrying out the transformation to which we had all committed ourselves".

Pérez Tornero reiterated that he maintains "intact" his commitment to the public broadcasting service and the "conviction that it continues to be essential for our democracies."

Until now, the president of RTVE will return to the university "with the satisfaction of having done everything possible to contribute to building a public, plural and independent radio and television that meets the demands of our time and as our country deserves".
