It was the night between Friday and Saturday, exactly at midnight, that there was a powerful explosion on Södermalm.

According to many witnesses, the bangs were heard over most of the district, and also in other parts of the city.

It turned out to be some kind of explosive device placed in a gate to a residential building on Barnängsgatan.

The residents have been evacuated and it is unclear when they can move home again.

Residents in Solna have returned after the explosion

The explosion on Södermalm took place just one day after a similar explosion in Huvudsta in Solna.

The police are investigating whether they are connected.

In Solna, the police removed the cordons on Friday and the residents have been able to move home again.

But shattered windows and balcony doors must be repaired or replaced, and apartment doors in the gate in question have already been replaced, writes the condominium association on its website.

The City of Stockholm's crisis support staff will be on site at Södermalm during Monday evening.
