The coalition led by the far right came out on top in the legislative elections organized on Sunday, with more than 40% of the votes, including more than half for the Brothers of Italy party (Fratelli d'Italia).

Its leader, Giorgia Meloni, seems on the way to becoming President of the Council.

According to historian Marie-Anne Matard-Bonucci, a specialist in fascism, the victory of this "populist radical right-wing party", from "the neo-fascist tradition", represents "an earthquake" in Italian political life.
