Five paramedics have died during the passage of Typhoon Noru in the Philippines when they were in a flooded town, authorities announced today.

The five lifeguards were on a boat in a flooded village, when a wall collapsed on them.

Yesterday, Typhoon Noru hit the densely populated island of Luzon, and was accompanied by strong winds and heavy rain.

The hurricane was accompanied by winds of 195 kilometers per hour, the strongest recorded this year in the country.

About 75,000 people were evacuated before the typhoon, after the meteorological department warned of the dangers of major floods in areas of the country prone to such phenomena.

It is noteworthy that the Philippine archipelago is exposed to an average of 20 tropical cyclones each year.

The most powerful typhoon ever to hit the Philippines was the devastating Typhoon Haiyan, which killed 6,300 people and displaced more than 4 million in November 2013.
