The French, who had skipped the European Championships in Munich in mid-August, immediately took the lead in the race, winning in 6 min 9 sec and 34/100th ahead of the Spaniards Aleix Garcia Pujolar and Rodrigo Conde Romero and Australians David Bartholot and Caleb Antill.

"I really find it hard to believe (...) It was two complicated days to manage mentally, but we ensured. What feels good is to win a major race without having a perfect race" , said Matthieu Androdias after the race to the newspaper L'Equipe.

The tricolor oar, which rushed at full speed on the water, passed the intermediate points in the lead and its lead gradually increased until the finish line.

"I was quite stressed the last four days (...) I was ultrafocus on Matt and I felt that we were good compared to the Spaniards", explained his partner, Hugo Boucheron.

The week in Racice went off without a hitch for the French duo who were among the main contenders for the title.

Hugo Boucheron, 29, and Matthieu Androdias, 32, won their second world title, after that won in 2018 on the Plovdiv lake (Bulgaria).

The French add another medal to their well-stocked list, having also won two continental titles, first in Glasgow in 2018 and in Varese four years later.

The French couple, formed in 2015, also had difficult years.

Illness for Boucheron in 2019, then the Covid both, disappointments were also part of the journey of the duettists: a sixth place in Rio and the failed 2019 World Championships (9th place).

"We will have to quickly savor, then forget this gold medal to get back to work (...) It must validate avenues of work, but it is only a stage, and I do not want that it's the only one in the Olympiad," added Androdias.

Boucheron and Androdias will have the opportunity to add a little more to their prize list at the Paris Olympic Games in two years, in front of their supporters.

In Racice, France won a second gold medal thanks to the duo Laurent Cadot and Elur Alberdi in the PR3 mixed double sculls.
