• Economy Sánchez defends the tax on the rich against the "tax gifts to the wealthy minority" of the PP

  • PP Feijóo accuses Sánchez: "There has not been a single president who has charged us more taxes"

The

Covid

has intervened for the third consecutive year in the traditional

PSC

Rose

Festival

, although this time unexpectedly.

After the cancellation of 2020 in the first months of the pandemic and the version with capacity restrictions last year, the appointment with which the Catalan socialists open the political course from Gavà (Barcelona) has not been able to count on the presence of the headliner,

Pedro Sánchez

.

The President of the Government reported first thing in the morning that he had tested positive for Covid and had to suspend his trip to Catalonia, where he was going to do battle by contrasting his fiscal policy with the tax cuts proclaimed by

Alberto Núñez Feijóo

and the main regional leaders of the

PP

.

The absence of the general secretary of the

PSOE

has not prevented the speeches from abounding in the message he launched in his recent speech at the UN General

Assembly

, where he defended that "social justice will come hand in hand with fiscal justice".

The announcement of the abolition of

the Wealth Tax

made by the president of the Andalusian Government,

Juanma Moreno

, last Monday has marked the week's agenda.

And, before the coordinated plan of tax reductions by the autonomous executives in the hands of the PP, the socialists want to take the bull by the horns and not shy away from the fiscal dialectic, which will become the main battle horse in the electoral appointments of the next year.

From the lectern of the Fiesta de la Rosa, the adequacy of the

temporary tax on large fortunes

that the Government finalizes for the next financial year has been defended, as announced on Thursday by the Minister of Finance,

María Jesús Montero

, and the tax that will affect to banks and large energy companies, as of January 1, also for a limited time.

The Secretary of Organization of the PSOE,

Santos Cerdán

, has accused Moreno of "harming 99.8% of Andalusians, who are going to see their rights cut" and the PP of being the party of "save yourself the most".

For his part, the first secretary of the PSC,

Salvador Illa

, has gone further and has said that "not only is there nothing patriotic about lowering taxes on those who have the most and confronting territories, but it is bordering on bad faith."

Sánchez's visit to Catalonia was also part of the PSOE communication campaign launched in early September under the slogan "The Government of the People".

With his expected participation in around thirty events in this last quarter, on a tour of different cities in Spain, the socialist leader seeks to reverse the polls on the eve of a fully electoral year and counteract Feijóo's economic message by reeling off the Government's measures against the crisis.

Without going any further, the president of the PP yesterday accused Sánchez of "fiscal voracity" and his deputy secretary of Economy,

Juan Bravo

, once again demanded the

deflation

of

personal income tax

for medium and low incomes and criticized that the Executive of the PSOE and

United We Can

"He always lacks money no matter how many taxes he puts in."

PSC optimism

Even without Sánchez, the PSC has celebrated the most optimistic Rose Festival of the last decade.

According to the last barometer of the

Center for Opinion Studies of

the Generalitat last July, it would once again be the most voted force in the regional elections and would break the current 33-seat tie with

ERC

.

The party led by Illa would obtain a range of between 36 and 42 deputies, while the estimate for the Republicans would be between 31 and 37. The Socialists, moreover, would also become the leading force in Catalonia in general elections, unseating the formation chaired by

Oriol Junqueras

.

Two days before the start of the

General Policy Debate

in the Parliament, the first secretary of the PSC has called on the president of the Generalitat,

Pere Aragonès

, to open a dialogue in Catalonia under the same conditions that are required in Madrid and, for this , have the most voted party in the autonomous community.

In her closing speech of the day, Illa had words of encouragement for

Enrico Letta

, the former Prime Minister of Italy and leader of

the Democratic Party

, who today measures his strength in the elections that have the far-right

Brothers of Italy

formation as the favorite , led by

Giorgia Meloni

.
