The results of the German Chancellor's Gulf tour are mixed.

After visiting three countries in less than 48 hours, Olaf Scholz returns to Berlin with just one new energy deal.

And this while Germany seeks to diversify its sources of gas supply to no longer depend on Russia.

This agreement signed with the United Arab Emirates provides for the export of a cargo of liquefied natural gas to Germany at the end of 2022. Then the supply of additional quantities in 2023. The Emirati oil company ADNOC should also supply Germany with up to to 250,000 tons of diesel per month in 2023.

In Qatar, on the other hand, no agreement concerning gas exports has yet been reached.

Discussions between the two countries have already been going on for several months.

But Germany seems reluctant to commit to the long-term contracts desired by the emirate.

Qatar is one of the largest producers of liquefied natural gas in the world.

Its exports are so far mainly intended for Asian countries.
