Smell:

You can smell anything you like, such as your favorite scented candle, your perfume, or any flower in your garden. Smell activation is very beneficial for your mental health, and makes you feel the things around you.

Taste:

Activating the sense of taste also brings you back to reality away from your obsessions and fears, eat anything you desire, such as a piece of chocolate, or a cup of chamomile.

Touch:

You can touch anything to feel more focused and aware of your surroundings. This could be the bed you lie on, the soft pillow you put your head on, or the sofa you're sitting on. Just stay away from touching your smartphone.

Once your sense organs are activated, you will notice an immediate drop in anxiety levels. Feeling the present makes you feel safe deep down, and helps you deal with anxiety in a calm and logical way.

2- Move your body

Do some simple exercises or stretches, such as jumping rope, running in the yard, stretching different muscle groups in your body one by one, or other simple and easy exercises that you can do in your place or home.

Then pay attention to what your body feels with each movement when your hands or feet touch the ground. The goal is to focus on your reality and the things that surround you, rather than drowning in obsessions and traveling with imagination and painful memories, or problems that have not yet occurred.

3- Feel your body

You can do this whether you are sitting or standing, and here you have to fully focus on how your body feels from the top of your head to the soles of your feet, for example:

Your hair on your shoulders or forehead, and how you feel about it.

The weight of your shirt, and how it feels.

Are your hands loose or stiff at your sides?

Your heartbeat, whether it's fast or steady.

Is your stomach full or empty and hungry?

Do you sit with your legs on top of each other or rest on the floor?

Flex your toes and move your toes, are you barefoot or wearing shoes?

How does the ground feel under your feet?

4- Put your hands in the water

Focus on the temperature of the water, how it feels on your fingertips, your palms and the backs of your hands. Do you feel the same on every part of your hand?

Use warm water first, then cold water, and then try cold water first, then warm water. Is the switch from cold water to warm water different, or vice versa?

5- Imagine the voice or face of someone you love

If you feel upset or sad, imagine a person or people who have had a positive role in your life, imagine their faces or think what their voice sounds like, and imagine them saying to you: Yes, you are facing difficult times, but they will pass, you are stronger than them, and you will overcome all the problems in your life.

6- Use math and numbers

Numbers can help you become more focused even if you are not an expert in mathematics. For example, try to count down from 100 to zero, or remember the multiplication table in your head, or choose a specific number and think of 5 ways to get the same result, for example: Choose the number 17, and how you can get this number from several simple mathematical methods: (6 + 11 = 17, 20-3 = 17, 8 x 2 + 1 = 17… etc.).

There are many other techniques and exercises that will help you return to reality away from the obsessions and fears that may have no basis except in your imagination, the important thing is not to drown in anxiety, the past is gone and will not return, and the future has not yet come and it is in the knowledge of God, all you have It is the present moment, so try to enjoy it as much as you can, and remember that every passing moment of your life will never come back.
