According to Jesper Jacobsson, head of law at the county administrative board, it all started with Partiet Nyan's party secretary contacting the county administrative board to withdraw two candidacies.

When he was told that it could only be done in person, he announced that he would tell the people concerned and that they would then contact the county government themselves.

"Assessed the chain of events as credible"

A few hours later, two separate emails arrived, with two different wordings from two different email addresses.

In the emails, the people stated that they wanted to withdraw their candidacies for the Riksdag.

But two candidates that SVT has spoken to say that they did not send the emails.

From the county board's side, they made an overall assessment and came to the conclusion that the emails were sufficient, since they had recently been contacted by the party board.

- We judged the chain of events to be credible because the contact came from the party secretary, says Chief Justice Jesper Jacobsson.

The county administrative board has never been involved in a similar situation, and they are now saying that they need to review their routines so that something similar does not happen again.

- We have not been involved in this situation before, so if it turns out that this is true, we must of course review our routines, says Jesper Jacobsson.

Spelled the name wrong

The people who had their candidacies withdrawn are shocked by what has happened.

In one of the e-mails, the name in the e-mail address was misspelled, something which the county administrative board believes cannot be taken as evidence.

- People have different spellings in their email addresses all the time, it's nothing we can have as proof that it wouldn't be genuine, says Jesper Jacobsson.
