The Joint Chiefs of Staff announced on the morning of the 25th that "North Korea has launched a short-range ballistic missile into the East Sea."

The Joint Chiefs of Staff explained that the military authorities detected a short-range ballistic missile launched by North Korea from the Taecheon area in North Pyongan Province at around 6:53 a.m. today into the East Sea.

"Our military is maintaining a full readiness posture while closely cooperating with South Korea and the United States while strengthening surveillance and vigilance," the Joint Chiefs of Staff said.

The military authorities are said to be analyzing the exact specifications, range, altitude, and speed.

The possibility of submarine-launched ballistic missiles and SLBMs has been raised, but for now, it has been confirmed that the missiles launched by North Korea are short-range ballistic missiles.

Previously, President Yoon Seok-yeol presided over a security situation inspection meeting just before takeoff after the tour.

Foreign Minister Park Jin and National Security Director Kim Seong-han were in attendance and were informed of signs of a SLBM provocation.

President Yoon instructed Defense Minister Lee Jong-seop to immediately implement countermeasures prepared in advance if North Korea actually fires an SLBM.

North Korea has launched ballistic missiles 17 times and cruise missiles twice this year.

Including this launch, it is the fifth missile launch since the inauguration of the Yun Seok-yeol government.
