It is the third and last country that the German Chancellor will visit during his tour of the Gulf.

This Sunday, Olaf Scholz is expected in Qatar.

The energy dossier will be at the heart of the discussions, as Germany is seeking to diversify its gas supply sources so as to no longer depend on Russia.

However, Qatar is one of the largest producers of liquefied natural gas in the world.

But its exports are so far mainly intended for Asian countries.

This move could therefore be a game-changer.

Especially since an energy partnership had already been signed last May between the two countries.

But no public announcement regarding a gas deal has been made yet.

European countries have long opposed the long-term contracts desired by the emirate.

This trip comes in any case the day after the announcement by Qatar of a

major contract with the French gas and oil giant TotalEnergies

for the development of the largest natural gas field in the world.
