US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken met his counterparts in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan and Yemen, and the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, in New York, at the invitation of the US Secretary.

According to a joint Arab-American statement, Blinken affirmed his country's permanent commitment to defending its partners, as well as taking all necessary measures to maintain the region's security and stability and to develop areas of joint cooperation.

The statement stressed the need to work to promote peace and stability in the Middle East and confront regional and global challenges.

According to the US State Department's website, Blinken stressed that he is working with his Arab counterparts "together to solve common regional and global challenges. We are trying to bring lasting peace to Yemen, confront the challenges posed by Iran, and deal with food insecurity, among a number of other issues."

In this context, a statement issued by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated that Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry participated in the meeting Blinken held with his Arab counterparts, on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The ministry spokesman said that Minister Shoukry reviewed, during the meeting, the Egyptian position on a number of major issues on the international and regional arenas, foremost of which are the peace process, the crisis in Syria, as well as the Yemeni file and the repercussions of the Ukrainian crisis on global food security.
