He says he really just wanted to ask a simple question.

What is art?

But the former union leader, who worked in Northern Norway for 40 years before moving back to Norberg, did it his own way when he spoke out in 2016 about the art in the police station.

- When I saw what they hung on the walls, I thought it was something made by preschool children, but it turned out to be established artists and art worth SEK 1.3 million.

The consequence was not only live debates, an angry artificial elite and a new nickname - he also had to stand for what he said.

Up to proof

The statement received a lot of attention and soon a gallery came forward with a challenge.

- The exhibition was titled "The vast majority agree with me" and I think it was so, in any case I still have the audience record in Tromsö for the exhibition.

Trams or art

- It was just nonsense what I did, but the point is that if an established artist does the same, then it is high-quality art.

He claims to have absolutely no general disdain for art.

- I like art and think it should be in public buildings, but today they seem to be buying what established artists are not allowed to sell, what is in the spare room.

I don't know how it is in Sweden, but I have heard that there may be views here as well.

In the clip, Karl Karlsson tells more about how he stepped on the toes of several in the Norwegian cultural elite - and shows the works he made himself.
