On September 23, in the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, as well as in the liberated territories of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, referendums began on the issue of joining Russia.

The voter turnout in the referendum in the LPR at 20:00 Moscow time was 21.97%.

A total of 298,900 people voted in the republic.
