UN: War crimes committed in Ukraine

United Nations investigators confirmed today that "war crimes" have been committed in Ukraine since the start of the war in late February, presenting a report that contradicts the caution shown by the international organization in this regard so far.

The International Commission of Inquiry presented to the Human Rights Council the preliminary conclusions of its investigation on the serious violations of human rights committed by Russian forces in the Kyiv, Chernigov, Kharkiv and Sumy regions.

"Based on the evidence collected by the commission, it has concluded that war crimes have been committed in Ukraine," the commission's chairman, Eric Mose, said, citing Russian bombings of civilian areas, numerous executions, torture, ill-treatment and sexual violence.

Several diplomats supported these accusations, while Russia's seat remained empty.
