On Friday, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi held talks on the Taiwan Strait and managing the two sides' relations during times of tension.

The US State Department said that the minister met with Wang on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, and discussed with him the importance of maintaining "peace and stability" in the Taiwan Strait.

According to US State Department spokesman Ned Price, Blinken "stressed that maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait is essential to regional and global security and stability."

The State Department said Blinken and his Chinese counterpart discussed the need to maintain open lines of communication between the two countries.

The same ministry said Blinken told Wang that the United States was committed to peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, and highlighted the consequences if Beijing supported Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
