For the first time in nearly 100 years, researchers and archaeologists have excavated on the Gotska sand island.

They have focused on the area of the seal cape where finds have previously been found, for example silver coins and a battle glove.

A stone wall surrounds the Christian burial site.

What is now puzzling the researchers are findings made at the old Christian burial site in the area.

Next to the human graves were other bones.

- Among this, there are a lot of animal bones from seals and offal from cows.

It pretty much fits together.

That's not how it should happen in a Christian cemetery, says Johan Rönnby, professor of archeology at Södertörn University.

The bones will now be analyzed and their age determined.

Perhaps the researchers can then figure out why they were placed there.

- Now we are excited to see what the analyzes of the bones give.

Then some things will become clear, but right now there are some riddles.

But riddles are fun, says Johan Rönnby.
