• Lesmes Courts finalizes his resignation as head of the CGPJ and already has the report on his replacement

  • The gossip of the salesas The EU Justice Commissioner will discuss in person with Minister Félix Bolaños the blockade of the CGPJ

The conservative sector of the General Council of the Judiciary continues to have problems finding candidates for the Constitutional Court.

According to legal sources, the magistrate of the Supreme Court Pablo Llarena, known for being the instructor of the

procés

, has communicated to several members of this group that he has no interest in being proposed as a magistrate to the court of guarantees.

The new approach of the members of the majority sector, after the president of the Supreme Court and the CGPJ, Carlos Lesmes, has included the appointments for the Constitutional in the order of the Plenary next Thursday, has been unsuccessful.

In the conservative sector they have problems finding suitable High Court judges to occupy a place in the TC.

Llarena already declined last August to be a magistrate of the court of guarantees - through an informal approach - and now he has once again transmitted the same idea to different members of the governing body of the judges.

Together with him, the president of the Criminal Chamber, Manuel Marchena, and the magistrate of this same Chamber,

Antonio del Moral

, have already declined the offer to be members of the High Court .

Added to this circumstance is the fact that the Technical Office of the CGPJ has indicated in a report, released this Friday, that the substitute for Lesmes in the event of his eventual resignation would be

Francisco Marín Castán

, president of the Civil Chamber of the High Court, a name that the conservative sector considered as a candidate and that may be left out of the TC if the president resigns and the plenary decides to follow the recommendations of the aforementioned document.

The arguments of the aforementioned text, prepared at the request of Lesmes, have generated controversy in a large group of members, who believe it is the responsibility of the Plenary to decide who should replace the president before his imminent departure.
