The Iranian army issued a stern warning to the demonstrators, according to the Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA).

"The armed forces and the people will never allow enemies to take advantage of the current situation," the army said in a statement, according to ISNA.

The intelligence service also warned against participating in "illegal gatherings."

The head of the judiciary, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, called on the security forces to respond with force to the demonstrations throughout the country.

The protests erupted following the death of 22-year-old Iranian Mahsa Amini.

She was arrested more than a week ago, for not adhering to the Islamic dress code.

She died on Friday before last, after falling into a coma.

While it is not clear what caused her death, critics say the morality police used violence against her.

The police rejected the charges.

Since then, thousands have demonstrated across the country against the government's repressive policies.

The protests left at least 17 people dead, including security personnel and demonstrators, according to Iranian state television.

Marches organized by the Iranian authorities began in several cities in the country yesterday, as some demonstrators demanded the execution of the rioters.

Live coverage of state television showed participants in the rallies denouncing the anti-government protesters, describing them as "Israel's soldiers".

They also chanted "Death to America" ​​and "Death to Israel."
