After 23 confirmed shootings in Eskilstuna in the last nine months, the police in Sörmland feel that they can no longer handle the pressure.

Therefore, support has been requested and received.

- We will get reinforcements from first and foremost our own police region East.

But also from neighboring regions, says Oscar Nissfolk, deputy local police area manager.

"Historical"

He does not want to reveal how large the reinforcement is in the form of police officers, but calls it "historically" large.

- At the turn of the year, we will make an evaluation of whether it has had an effect, says Oscar Nissfolk.

According to him, they will then check, for example, how many shootings have taken place since the resource reinforcement.

This may then determine the continuation of the investment.

Increased attendance

According to Oscar Nissfolk, more police officers will be seen in town, more drug searches will be carried out at schools and the safety-creating work will be intensified.

Already today, resources are available around the clock in the two priority residential areas of Årby and Skiftinge.

The increased reinforcement will increase the police presence in even more areas.

And they will work even more actively to stop the shootings.

Together with the municipality, one must work actively to, among other things, create security for children, school students and staff who work in the areas.

In addition, the municipality's dropout activities will be lifted and work closely with associations and the business community.

At the same time, the municipality will, among other things, create opportunities for extended citizen dialogues.

In the clip, you can hear the municipal director Tommy Malm's reactions to the reinforcements of the police and how he sees the safety-creating work going forward.
