According to the version of the UK, in September 2021, Smirnov demanded 5 million rubles from a woman for help in her son's competition for the position of a notary in one of the districts of the Moscow region.

According to the UK, the suspect received the money in his office on Ozerkovskaya embankment in Moscow.

It is noted that searches were conducted in his office and at the place of residence, during which phones, documents and other items were seized. 

Smirnov was taken to the Investigative Committee for investigative actions.

The UK plans to subsequently bring charges against him and apply for a preventive measure.

In August, the Russian Interior Ministry put on the wanted list a State Duma deputy Vadim Belousov, who was sentenced to ten years in prison in a bribery case.
