The autumnal equinox occurs between the summer and winter solstice and means that day and night are of equal length – all over the world.

This year it falls at 03:03 on September 23.

After that, the nights are longer than the days.

- Darkness is creeping in and it might be time to bring out the cozy lighting, says SVT's meteorologist Marcus Sjöstedt.

But despite the darkness and autumn drizzle, meteorologist Marcus Sjöstedt is positive.

- It's a bit funny that the days are the same length everywhere on earth.

It still gives a certain sense of community.
