The Estonian government today recalled reservists and members of the Defense League for an extraordinary session of exercises.

This was announced by Prime Minister Kaja Kallas during a speech to the nation broadcast by national television networks.

Kallas stressed that the new phase of the war in Ukraine does not currently pose "direct threats to Estonia".

Nonetheless, the Prime Minister continued, "defense capability means readiness and awareness that, in a moment of crisis, we know exactly what to do".

After recalling that the Baltic countries are preparing for possible difficulties inherent in the electricity supply and defending the decision to limit the entry of Russian citizens with visas issued by Schengen countries, Kallas returned to the question of Russian citizens residing in Estonia.

"I am convinced that no one who resides in Estonia and shares our values wants to interfere in the ongoing criminal war in Ukraine," she said.

"If, however, someone is considering joining the Russian forces, my message is clear: don't go there because there is no return. Anyone who takes up arms against a free nation, against a free Ukraine, takes up arms against it. Estonia and commits a crime that we will not forgive ".
