The group operating Ukraine's nuclear power stations, Energoatom, accused Russia of bombing the Zaporizhia nuclear plant site in southern Ukraine, the largest in Europe, while Russia accused Ukrainian forces of bombing the nuclear plant again.

"The Russians bombed the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant again during the night," the company said via the Telegram app, yesterday.

"Energoatom" confirmed that the bombing damaged one of the power lines, which stopped the work of several transformers, belonging to reactor No. 6 at the station, and led to the operation of the emergency generators briefly.

"Even with the presence of inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Russians do not stop the bombing," she added, calling on the agency to take firmer measures against Moscow.

On the other hand, the Russian Defense Ministry said that a large-caliber shell damaged a water pipe at the Zaporizhia nuclear plant in Ukraine.

The Russian “Sputnik” agency reported that Ukrainian forces fired on the station, damaging the communications equipment of one of the power units, and a temporary shutdown of the unit transformer and the auxiliary transformer.

The site of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant has been bombed several times in recent months, after Russian forces took control of it since the first weeks of its war on Ukraine last February. Kyiv and Moscow exchange accusations of being responsible for the bombing and of practicing "nuclear blackmail."

At the beginning of the war, Moscow's forces also took control of the Chernobyl power plant, which in 1986 witnessed the worst nuclear accident in history.

It has been closed since 2000, and is located in an area highly contaminated with radioactive waste.
