The

morning-after pill

in France

will

soon be free for all women

, regardless of age and

without the need to present a medical prescription when purchasing

.

This was announced by the Minister of Health, Francois Braun, in an interview published in the newspaper 20 Minutes.

The measure will be included in the 2023 Social Security Financing Bill. 

Today, the use of free

emergency contraception

without a prescription

is reserved for women up to the age of 25

, until last year only for minors under 18, in pharmacies, school infirmaries and screening centers.

For all other women, the cost 

of the morning-after pill

varies between 3 and 20 euros

.

The government has also decided to

make screening for sexually transmitted diseases up to 26 years of age accessible free of charge

.
