The United Arab Emirates participated in the joint ministerial meeting between the Gulf Cooperation Council and the People's Republic of China, which was held today in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, where discussions focused on the most pressing regional and international issues.
His Excellency Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Minister of State, spoke during the meeting, stressing the depth of the relations between the UAE and the People's Republic of China, as it is the most important trading partner of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and the country's largest trading partner, as the volume of non-oil trade exchange amounted to more than $60 billion in 2021.
His Excellency expressed the UAE's aspiration to "double trade exchange, enhance cooperation in important areas such as energy, technology and culture, and enrich discussions on these issues during the joint summit between the GCC and China."
His Excellency praised the effective regional and international role of China in the Security Council and its contribution to maintaining international peace and security. His Excellency said: "We value the spirit of constructive cooperation and consensus between our two countries in various files, especially Arab issues, and we look forward to continuing this cooperation during the UAE's membership in the Council and at all times." He thanked China for its condemnation of the terrorist attacks launched by the Houthi militia on the capital Abu Dhabi and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. His Excellency also affirmed the UAE's adherence to the "one China" policy.
His Excellency Al Marar stressed the importance of the steps taken by the UAE and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries towards reducing tension and achieving peace in the region, stressing the importance of Iran taking practical measures to build confidence and adopting positive behavior within its international obligations, expressing the importance of representing the Gulf Cooperation Council countries in any multiple discussions The parties are prospective in this regard.
