European Union Foreign Policy Commissioner Josep Borrell said that there is nothing new in the negotiations on Iran's nuclear program and that he does not expect anything new to happen this week, as French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna said that there will be no better offer for Iran to revive the nuclear agreement. The Iranian president said that his country is sincere in its negotiations, pointing to the possibility of reaching a good agreement.

Borrell added that the Iranian responses do not contribute to achieving an end result, but he indicated that the negotiating parties are still close to achieving a final result on the nuclear agreement.

He stressed, during a press conference in New York, that his proposal to revive the nuclear agreement will remain on the table and said that he did not see a better solution than it.

For his part, the spokesman for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Stephane Dujarric, expressed his hope that the dialogue between the parties to the Iranian nuclear agreement will continue, and that it will be able to reach a consensus.

Dujarric said, during a press conference, that the Secretary-General expressed to Iran and the other parties the need to show flexibility and move forward with the nuclear deal.

He indicated that the UN Secretary-General is expected to meet the Iranian president on the sidelines of the General Assembly this week.

In turn, French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna said that Iran did not provide a positive response to the nuclear deal proposal, and stressed, during a meeting with journalists on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings, that the opportunity to find a solution declined due to Tehran's retreat from part of its non-proliferation obligations. Nuclear weapons, as she put it.

The French minister did not rule out the possibility of President Emmanuel Macron meeting with his Iranian counterpart, who will be present in New York this week, and told reporters that the window of last chance to revive the nuclear agreement will close soon, but Iran has not yet provided a positive response to the European proposal to revive the agreement.

She added that the United States and its European partners have an identical position on the issue of the International Atomic Energy Agency's investigation into uranium traces found at 3 sites in Iran, an issue that Tehran demanded to close before returning to the agreement.

For its part, the Russian presidency said that there are still a number of contentious issues in the Iranian nuclear deal that must be resolved.

The Kremlin added that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on the Iranian nuclear file meets the interests of all countries.

Iranian response

On Monday, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi confirmed that his country was sincere in the Vienna negotiations to revive the nuclear agreement, indicating the possibility of reaching a good agreement.

Raisi said in an interview with the "60 Minutes" program of the American channel "CBS", that Iran is serious about reaching a good and fair agreement, but this agreement must contain guarantees so that America does not withdraw from it.

The United States under former President Donald Trump withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (the nuclear deal) in May 2018, and reimposed tough sanctions on Tehran, which has gradually violated the nuclear restrictions stipulated in the agreement in response.

Raisi added: America has violated the covenant, so the agreement is meaningless if they do not abide by it, stressing that Tehran cannot trust Washington, as it has tried it in the past.

The Iranian president questioned what prompts Washington to impose new sanctions on Iranians during the nuclear negotiations if it wants to reach an agreement.

On Monday morning, Raisi left Tehran for New York to participate in the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

In this regard, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Nasser Kanaani, said that Raisi will not hold any bilateral meetings with US officials during his visit to New York.

He added, in a press conference, that there are no specific programs to hold a meeting between the parties to the nuclear agreement, but the matter is not excluded, he said.

And the European Union's foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, said that negotiations to revive the Iran nuclear deal had reached a dead end.
